Using the CG BUSWAY as an example, the capacity expansion and reconfiguration project at a large factory in Shenzhen involves replacing cables with bus ducts.
The total load of the power supply mainline in this project's renovation is approximately 8000KW, supplied by 4 units of 2000KVA transformers. The capacity of the incoming busway is 4000A, the capacity of the interconnecting busway is 3200A, and the capacity of the outgoing busway is 2500A/2000A, which can be adjusted to 1250A/1000A. The capacity of the branch busway is 800A. The total length of the busway is approximately 3817 meters (see attached Figure 1).

In the same application environment, with the same load, power circuit length, and load factor (simultaneous coefficient), impedance values obtained from the type tests of bus ducts and cable passages, the differences in annual power losses and total annual loss electricity costs between using bus ducts and cable routes can be calculated respectively using formulas.
Through data calculation, the cost of the busway in this project is approximately 9 million, with a total output power of 8000KW. The load factor is set at 0.4 (meaning it runs at full load for 9.5 hours per day). The annual total electricity cost is 30.5 million. The energy-saving busway and ordinary cable electricity loss data are as follows:
- The annual total electricity cost for the cable line is approximately 5.84 million, with a line electricity cost loss ratio of about 19.1%.
- The annual total electricity cost for the busway line is approximately 3.58 million, with a line electricity cost loss ratio of about 11.7%.
- By using energy-saving busway instead of cables, there is a 7.5% reduction in line electricity cost losses, resulting in an annual total savings of 2.26 million.
- The annual total savings in electricity costs represent about 25.2% of the busway project cost, meaning that the electricity savings from using busway over 4 years are equivalent to the cost of the busway itself, leading to continuous benefits in the following decades.
In conclusion, a large factory incurs over 2 million more in power losses annually when using cables compared to using CG BUSWAY energy-saving bus ducts. Similarly, for commercial complexes, high-rise buildings, rail transportation, and other facilities, even if only half of the power loss from the electrical lines is considered, it still represents a significant cost.
